Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong. Thank you for playing!
Time will tell... I hope I'm wrong...
The info on the hope page DID say the current Konfab engine would likely eventually be phased out...

Top 5 Reasons this *might* not be a good thing...
5. Mac development of Konfab is going to slow to a crawl, compared to Windows development. The mac version will hit v2.3 at around the same time Windows hits v5.0...
4. The inevidable ad widget that is going to be required in order to even run Konfab...
3. Death of all current funcitoning 3rd party widgets...
2. Accessing of any information not on Y! will eventually be phased out...
1. Y! decides the whole Konfab thing isn't worth it so they scrap the whole thing...
Ugg, I'm really worried now...
QUIT HATIN' BOBBY!
Try thinking positively, like now there's a WIDE distribution and advertising channel for a program that has popularly recognized roots in our venerable Mac OS, and it's apps like this that will make others realize that the Mac OS is not just cool but a more than viable alternative... If Y! is smart (someone there must be) they will recognize that OS X is the earthquake that will have Windoze Vista (oops, uh, TM under dispute, nice name jackasses) users running from the tsunami of crap - and the hills are alive with mactel. If Y! is smart AND responsible, they will not ignore the growing Mac community. HAVE FAITH!
obligatory machine specs: Gossamer 466, 10.3.9 (via XPostFacto) 768 MB mem NeoOffice/J (heh)

You can pretty much count on that happening, just waiting for them to load it up with spyware and the likes. Well here goes another great product down the toilet.
This won't be happening. The plan is to use it as a tool for developing new web technologies... not annoy people.

As I said in a prevous post, time will tell... To be fully honest if the current version of the Konfab engine works as it does now on Mac OS X, I will be 100% happy... My real concern is if an advancement in Mac OS X causes the current engine to stop functioning...
Also try to keep in mind, the Top 5 thing was semi comedic... Based off Letterman's Top 10...
But I am still worried in the long run...

The name, not the product.
Nothing in your list is on our two year road map... and since we've only planned for two years, that's a pretty good sign we're not going to do anything evil any time soon.
We're all Mac guys, so the Mac version is always going to be up to par as the Windows version, and if you've read any of the press you'll see that we're actually going to extend support to Cell Phones, Linux, and even TiVo at some point. Well, that's the plan anyway.

Are you guys still mainly in control of the product???
Do you have leway and so forth???
(Are you still taking part in the core development???)
I'm guessing from your post the answer is yes, in which case I would be less worried...
Although changing the icon to a big red Y from it's nifty current icon would still kinda suck...

Well, assuming these forums stay open and this particular topic doesn't get deleted, we'll have both of these predictions to look back on. If Y! does eventually do any of these things to Konfabulator, are you going to be big enough to stand up and apologise?

We're in control, and no Y! app icon.
Future revs of Widgets will have a small and discrete Y! logo that show up when they're active.
Only for widgets that have Y! type services, right???

I'm happy with the move, and anticipate great things for K!.
That being said, how are widgets going to work regarding Y!'s competitors? For example, will Google support for "Where Is It?" be continued, or dropped?

for the love of god, don't change the name to Yahoo! Widgets.
I will never put a Yahoo! Widgets.app in my applications folder.

Congrats to *everyone* at Pixoria who's worked their butts off!
I'm really happy that the recent moves by "the fruit" isn't going to drive my favorite app into the dustbin.
And I'm really happy to see that nice guys don't always get driven into the ground. A superb product has an excellent opportunity to spead itself far and wide...and to have influence on the rest of their product portfolio.
In other words, don't just think about what effect Y! is going to have on Konfab, look at the opportunity that Konfab has to help "infect" all of Y!.
And if it means more of the creative integration like flikr & the picture frame widget, then I'm all for it.
Though I guess I shouldn't hold my breath waiting for that Google Maps widget... ::smirk::
Congrats again! Huzzah .... Huzzah ......HUZZAH!

Congrats!
Hope this will mean good things for the users!
Since I upgraded, i've noticed my "systemdashboard CPU meter" widget is not running...although the systemdashboard clock and wireless meter are ok!?!?!
Anybody else having this problem? I've tried shutting down/restarting both Konfab and my computer...also tried downloading the widget again...but nothing.

I think you're all being hideously naive. Wake up and smell the coffee.
A massive internet behemoth buys out more I.P. and this is meant to be a good thing? Oh, but sure, they'll have way more money, way more support, way more promotion... like we haven't heard that n million times before on the interweb.
I wish I could be happy about this, but please. I sincerely hope you Konfab guys maintain enough control over the project so that it survives this. I'll continue to support the program and tell my friends about it, even though that job has just become a little harder..
QUOTE(Skerns) I paid for K and now it's free?
I'm pretty pissed off about that.

Do we have to keep that Jeffrey dude from Yahoo?
His posts are already smug and annoying.
Also wondering just how much "control" you have...seems if there's an impasse...yahoo will win everytime.
I try to be positive about most things...but I can totally understand why so many people don't trust the bigwig corporates...
Glad to here that refunds will be given.
