Edit: If you would like to participate in this Beta, go to the final page for details. I ask that you be a registered member of the forums and post your findings. Thank youI threw this together with love last night. Based partially on the Calendar and Picture Frame widgets. I'm not satisfied with how it looks completely though. I'd much prefer the backing had a more paper feel. I tried to make it look like it was hanging by adding a slight gradient over the top and bottom half with a sort of "crease" in the middle as if it folded. I also added that pushpin to the top. (Colorizable) Any tips on how to make the background of the calendar look more real, like rolled up edges and more roundness. It's too flush with the wall. The finished product will have colorizable everything with many options. It's all layered. The back is a layer, the shadow is a layer, the top and bottom curving gradients are layers. The lines are layers as are the squares behind them and the current day. Everything is a different image so it'll be easy to customize. (Even the pin and its shadow are separate layers. I thought of separating the pin from the paper and making it one of those hanging wall calendars with the sticks through the top and bottom and a string (Like a picture frame) hanging down.

Thanks. It basically acts like the picture frame (In that it has changeable images randomly picked with a changeable timer.) and the calendar except that I took out the date changing ability (No more paging through the months.) and the image control buttons. (Ditto) I had to since it made it feel too bulky. I like my Calendar flush on the desktop with no interaction at all. Since I can't interact with my desktop Widgets, what's the use in having controls, eh? I live by the KISS rule. I think I've talked myself into the idea of having the string and the sticks (rods) at the top and bottom of the calendar. Yeah. Awesome! Gonna get to work on that right now.

Okay, within an hour or so, I have changed the Widget to something I like much better... I really like this. I do. I couldn't get the foldable versions to look right. But this one looks much more realistic.. for the most part. I will have to add some sort of handler for when images aren't comlete square. I could use the cropping feature. Or I could try to resize the Widget. But really, I'd much rather it stay static sized.

It will be submitted soon. I just want to finalize some preferences for a first version. Also, I am going to need to read up on what to do to make it Windows ready. I don't think there's any Mac specific stuff in it, so I don't see how it will not work on Windows. But I don't use Windows so I can't test it. We'll figure this out once I finish all the current kinks. I've already added a second calendar style to it which I like much better than the original (Which I will include as well.) Here is another shot! And yes, the colors are changeable. Thank you guys for implementing color shifting! Also, one thing I plan on doing now that I changed the format of the look is making it resize itself if needed. i.e. the bottom of the calendar when there are only 5 weeks in the month, which there usually are. So it'll be nice to crop that off and shorten it. I am off for three days. Much of that time will be dedicated. List of things planned to be customizable: Images of course are chosen from a folder at random. I may even add preferences to choose a specific image or even better yet, 12 different pictures to use each month. (Lowest priority right now) Colors of the background the Days of the Week bar the calendar overlay (i.e. the grey sunday markers in the new shot) the calendar underlay (i.e. the blue bars) the current day (Figure out where that one is.) the month and year bar each individual kind of text (i.e. the month, the year, the days, the current day and the days of week names will all be customizable separately. Both font face and boldness as well as coloring.) maybe I'll colorize the "rods" at the top and bottom. the pushpin is already changeable. I'll probably add a way to turn off individual parts. Maybe you want the calendar and picture, but not the rods or string and pin. Set it to simple mode to remove it all. One thing I toyed with was adding "X"'s to each passed day and a circle for the current one. BUT I realized I can't draw these fluidly enough in Photoshop without them looking fake. Real fake. So if anyone can create a PSD file with a half a dozen differently drawn X's ad a circle, (Preferably with the ends unconnected, kind of like the Intel logo. Looks more amateur when it's left open) I'd love it. Or I could just Google for already made ones like usual. PITA. I'll add options to deal with rectangularly shaped images. Also a preference to not have the month overlap the image. I've decide on options to just shrink the rectangular image, crop the middle of it square or crop either the left or right ends. (Using K2's new ability to crop parts of images.) Maybe a way to resize the Widget. Currently the image itself is 195 pixels. Making the actual widget part 201 pixels wide not including the shadow. I'll add an option to make it bigger or smaller since it's all scalable. (Low priority as well) Big plans for such a simple widget.

Yeah, that sixth week always ticks me off. So I'm going to add the feature to have it resize to remove the last row for the months that don't have a sixth week. It only occurs when a month has 30 or 31 days and starts on a Friday or Saturday which causes the last day or two to form a new "week", Which never has more than 2 days in it. So most calendars actually put thr final week on top of the previous one... hmm.. there's an idea.. I wonder if I can fit them... Anyways, as for my library of images... those can be found very easily on many of the various fan sites out there. (Honest, I only go for the pictures.. and to laugh at all the poor virgins who swear one day they'll marry them.) Maybe I'll provide them.. maybe. (They're not full size. I edited them all to save memory.)

All right. Thanks to the new clipRect functions in K2, I have implemented automatic resizing of the calendar space when the month has 6 weeks. Looks much nicer without that empty line at the bottom there. I also, for now, changed to using the built-in shadowing feature. I might hard code the shadow via images later, but I want to see how this works out. It looks a bit different using OS X's shadowing instead of what I did in Photoshop. Different background styles will come soon as well. Someone once said "More customization", and here some more is. Some like it light... Some like the opposite... While others like to go crazy... Whatever you want. Customize away! I hope to have it ready to submit tonight.
