Anyone left who still wants to maintain contact? We could technically set up a non-widgets related forum (or something similar) just to keep together or something of the sort if there's enough people remaining ... I know I kinda left and didn't necessarily look back (though occasionally I did out of curiosity), but there were definitely some interesting people here that might want to stay in touch. The ##konfabulator IRC (freenode) channel is still exists, though really it's just the original 3 to 4ish people (if that) who started it, and it's never "on topic" ;) Just an idea before this forum goes *poof*, though I know it already looks like the "Quiet. Wow, just like the real CompuServe!" (Kevin & Kell) strip and most might not even see this. - Art

QUOTE(CSM @ May 28 2012, 08:56 AM) Cool. I wonder if there's anyone else we should ping to catch their attention or just rely on hope they see it.
I run my own box now, and I could set up a forum something like Vanilla if we wanted to head our own way, otherwise I'm not sure what it would take but we could try a Google "Group". They changed their format recently and it looks more friendly.
I still look in occasionally. It would be nice to have a way of keeping in touch - there was a very good group here. I have a download site for my own widgets - it's a pity there is not a common site for those of us who would still wish to contribute old (or new) widgets. I've been looking at XWIDGETS which are currently Windows only. There is a nice IDE but almost no documentation. I've (re)built a calendar/orrery widget with Dean Beedell using the XWIDGET IDE - definitely shows promise, but the lack of documentation is a major problem for me. H.

Well if no objections then creating a Google group seems easy enough, though it may require a Google account to use. I don't mind hosting something and we'd naturally have more control over such a thing, but if the maintenance burden can be shifted to someone like Google ... Any preference or thoughts? Heh, too bad I didn't finish that Konspirators Community Gallery with HRyba. Unfortunately it's not something I'd prefer just resurrect (though with the right magic it might still be usable). If I were to have done it now, I'd pick a different language and use a web framework ... QUOTE(g6auc @ May 28 2012, 04:42 AM) I've been looking at XWIDGETS which are currently Windows only. Strange that it's Windows only when they use an iMac to present it (not that you can't install Windows on it, but not sure why you would). The program itself looks interesting, even sort of overly Macish, but their gallery is kinda awkward to browse. Edit: yes, I do see the slight humor in a potential Google group about a Yahoo! product. It could be named after Konfabulator or something instead (always liked that name better anyway).

I'd be there for sure... I was never part of the old forum as it all happened before my time but I'd be keen to join the new group. A Google group is a good idea, we know how Yahoo products tend to disappear. Hmmm.

I'd be up for wherever. Google seems easiest to maintain & I do already have a Google account.
I've been researching other widget engines as well. Is it possible to have the new group somewhat open to other widget engines?

I've been looking for alternatives to the Yahoo! Widget Engine, but not yet found anything as functional. I've also played with converting a few Yahoo! Widgets to web widgets, but browsers have limitations for security reasons. It would be interesting to hear how others have got on with other widget engines. H.

QUOTE(ppenpraze @ Jul 10 2012, 06:34 PM) Hate to see these forusm go do down as I still search these for tips and code.
That's a good point. There's lots of info here that will be lost when the forum is shut down. Is anyone able to grab a backup?

Well, you know, seeing as we're still here (the forum, that is) and nothing materialized for a different one (I rather think it wouldn't be the same ... and generally all the personal reasons/motivations to post something here would be different and changed ...) I should note that there's still a ##konfabulator IRC channel on freenode. If you don't have a client already, I think freenode provides a free web one. The channel doesn't require a registered username like some channels do, so anyone is free to join. There's no obligation to always be there, though I've set it to my auto-join list of channels when I log on. Usually it's just PovAddict (BOINCER), his bot, MTughan (Michael's Programming), and me. HRyba (Hunter890) joins occasionally. We're never "on topic" so whatever is fine Though right now PovAddict is out until tomorrow so it's really really empty. Freenode has quite a few help channels for various things (Java, C/++, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, Apache stuff ...) so you might be there already. We don't really get any visitors, just the occasional random person who finds the channel, joins for no reason, then leaves shortly after. If that was one of you guys, you should have said hello!

this is a dual post so forgive me I've created a group on DeviantArt where past and present Yahoo Widgeteers can post their old widgets. All that is needed is a preview image, a brief description and a .widget. http://yahoowidgeteers.deviantart.com/I have started the ball rolling by posting my own steampunk widgets and inviting a few past widgeteers to post. My own personal opinion is that the YWE! will continue to work with windows and the Mac OS/x for the forseeable future, the combination of Photoshop, the conversion script and javascript is still an elegant solution for creating desktop widgets so it is still my starting point. I am starting to convert to xwidgets but YWE! is still my preferred working environment. Some will read this announcement and ignore it but please for the sake of others, posterity or to provide the world with a useful resource, do joinDeviantArt, do post your widgets and leave a comment or two on the widgets that are already there. DeviantArt Yahoo Widgeteers It is possible to take a backup of the forum using one of the site downloaders that bots/spiders use when copying a site's contents. I started doing it with this site but the combination of bandwidth and disc space required to store .html versions of each and every page generated by the cms/forum is too prohibitive for me to continue. It can be done though if you have plenty of disc space (and I mean plenty) as well as unmetered bandwidth.

CSM I sent you an invitation at DA - please log on and accept and you'll be able to post your widgets. Look forward to seeing you, can you bring over anyone else?
