For some unexplained reason, the Gallery is no longer allowing me to download any Windows-based widget in the Gallery which predates December 7, 2007. Ordinarily, when I click the "Get It" button to download a widget, this opens another window with a link that has small Windows and Mac icons to the left of it with text saying "______ for Windows and Mac" and a figure in parentheses which indicates how big the file is. However, when I click the "Get It" button for widgets which predate 12/07/2007, I still get the new window -- but the text of the link only says "Widget for Mac", and the link itself appears to be broken since clicking it does not start the download.

What gives, folks? If for some reason you've decided that you're no longer going to make older widgets available for download, then why bother keeping them in the Gallery? For that matter, why not TELL people that these will not be available anymore??

Try downloading from the Widget History pages - that works better for me.

I found that if I go to the page which lists widgets by popularity rather than by date, that works somewhat better -- but it's not 100% effective, and it still doesn't explain why the Gallery lists widgets which the administrators have (to all appearances) decided for one reason or another will no longer be hosted on the site.

Which widget(s) are you trying to install? I would like to help you download and use all the Widgets in the gallery but I cannot replicate what you have described.

Thanks for your help and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

How much time have you got? *Sigh*...

If you like, I can start putting a list together -- but it will take some time. As we speak, I'm browsing through the Widget Gallery according to ratings...and about every fifth or sixth widget I come across seems to have a broken download page.

While we're on the subject of the Widget Gallery...considering the number of widgets still up on the site which have long since expired (such as those which count the days left in Bush's presidency or until the latest Harry Potter book comes out), it seems to me that a good spring cleaning in the Widget Gallery is frankly long overdue.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. We are working on a fix.

This issue appears to affect Window's Firefox users when they attempt to download some of the older widgets.

Try using another browser or visiting the Widget's history page, where platform specific download links should be visible.
