QUOTE(Arlo Rose @ Feb 24 2008, 07:53 PM) I can't say what we're doing with it, but it's amazingly cool stuff. I wouldn't have come back to create the experience for something that wasn't truly ground-breaking. [...] ...ramp up and ship the Next Big Thing™. Hmm but will we really like it? "Ground-breaking" doesn't imply "good". "Amazingly cool stuff" doesn't imply "stuff the community wants/likes". Not to sound like I don't trust you but... I guess we're just afraid of change... QUOTE There's going to be some dark period starting soon that's going to freak everyone out, but trust that we're doing something you all are going to want to be a part of. Also keep in mind that I'm all about the hints and teasers, so pay close attention to my posts and you might have a chance of viewing something interesting. ;-) Aren't we already freaked out by the lack of posting...? You're planning teasers and more silence?? You say you want to revive the community, but you're actually trying to kill us all!

Arlo I think is time enough !!,
We have to wake up!!!
Go Arlo, Go Arlo, Go Konfabulator.
Let's take the market again in the Widgets Brand ...
Make Widgets for desktop, make Widgets for Mobile too.
Widgets in Linux,
Widgets with 3D technology like papervision,
Widgets everywhere, !!!
Go Arlo, Go Arlo, Go Konfabulator.
Go Community.
Best,
rhelena

Konfabulator is dead Who killed it? I think it was Yahoo! Arlo Rose is alive, (his last twitter is only 21 hours old), but his last entry on his website MouseLabs was October 2008. It talked about his new project at Yahoo! Rob Marquardt was last active in the forum on 20th January 2010. That's encouraging. I'm not sure if he left a post then or not. I must confess that it's been almost a year since I visted. It's like coming home and finding a ghost town. I just started having new problems with K, so I stopped in to see what answers I could find. (Would that be the definition of a "foul weather friend")? Looks like I'll have to depend on an archive search. I don't think there'll be any experts around to answer questions. I feel bad for the new members that are excited about making widgets. They're not going to be able to find the same level of support as I had when I first started writing mine. Bah. I need to shake this depression. "The Simpsons" is new tonight! I have a TV, too, Arlo!

I just got fed up with using Geektool, and a wave of nostalgia brought me back here, hoping that maybe the Konfabulator community of my youth was still vibrant, Yahoo! be damned. Would that it were true. Reading Arlo's hopeful post in this thread from 2008, talking about all the exciting things for the future, then zooming ahead to see that that exciting future was some TV platform, and since then... basically nothing. Seems even that was dead-on-arrival. :'-(
Anyway, this post isn't to dump on anybody who still loves this vague memory of a vibrant platform, or to dis the poor Yahoo! guy(s?) whose job it is to tend to the menial needs of the gallery and the occasional support request. It just breaks my heart to remember how excited this application used to make me, back when it was Arlo and Perry and us, the thriving community! When exciting, beautiful new widgets were being written all the time... ah well. I guess all good things come to an end. At least in our generation we can go to the near-silent forum, find our login still in the Keychain, and reminisce for a moment about good times past.
