I don't get it... Every time a new comment is added, another one is going out in the blue. There are widgets that have more than 30 comments, so I know is not a general problem. But both my widgets do not have more than 30... Before the site revamp One Photo had 99 comments and One Butterfly had 47. Now it should have 104 and 51 respectively. But nooo, this pages are stubborn evil creatures that refuse to display more than 30! This makes impossible for the monitoring widget I use to announce me of new comments, so I can answer to users problems or requests. I have to check the pages manually, which reminds me the fact that, by default, the comments are sorted by relevance not by date (which is another annoyng "feature"...)

QUOTE(Cicerone Pavaloi @ Dec 19 2007, 11:19 AM) I have to check the pages manually, which reminds me the fact that, by default, the comments are sorted by relevance not by date (which is another annoyng "feature"...)
I stopped using checker Widgets when they got blacklisted by "security issues". (plus chekcking on my Widgets every day is probably unhealthy) However, I agree with Cicerone. We are not a website/community built around "relevance". Half the time I see posts that have negative points because their "sentiments" don't match what some overzealous "this is the best Widget in world, what are you talking about?" people's ideas. Even if the negative post is correct! Also, I liked the old "forum" style, because updates weren't immediate, and I could announce that I had updated it to those that had posted. Now they can't even see those posts. This is especially relevant to the new gallery, where when I update Widgets, the new description doesn't show up. So there is no "big indicator" that my Widget has even changed. And with the new Widget Engine not doing automatic updates yet ... Another quirk I see is that you are only allowed to vote once on a post. However, that applies to both thumb up, *and* thumbs down. (one vote per thumb) Also a minor, but hugely annoying, effect of this new default was that the oldest posts for two of my Widgets (which had no ratings) showed up on top (in useful sorting) and I accidentally responded to them, only to find out that if I switched views, I had already answered them! This new "sorting" prevents people form seeing simple answers to questions like "Can you please add the flag of England to this Widget?" I posted back to "look under Great Britain", but only a day later he reposted that he is still wondering if I will add it! This new sorting does not benefit the majority of all current Widget users. If we had a history of using this, it might be very useful, but until that point, it is just hampering everything, and pissing most of us off. I motion we make the default post sorting chronological. All in favor say "aye". At the very least, you've already said the new gallery requires cookies, so store our last selected option, so that if we go back to a Widget, it will default to our last choice. That way I can visit my Widgets and have the posts sorted chronologically every time. Thank you. Rant over.
A result of starting my server over, links from my posts may not work (especially those in the "temp" subdomain). If there is a link to something of which anyone would like to have a copy, personal message me with what you're looking for along with a way to provide this to you, and I'll see if I can find a copy. "aye" from me too. Like I said on another thread: ordering by relevance makes *some* sense if we were to delete all comments and start over. But we aren't. All existing comments were made "with chronological sorting in mind", that is, assuming they will stay in the order they were posted. You can't change the sorting now, too late for that. Comments stop making sense.
If you want to keep your relevance-sorting thingy: add threading too. So that when I reply to a comment, it stays under that comment (and maybe a bit indented as well). Top-level comments can be in whatever order you want, but keep their replies attached.

Defiantly Aye - up until reading this thread I thought new comments aren't being shown at all Besides, it makes more sense to select the left-most option as default. Also, the "Sort by: Newest | Most helpful" text is very confusing - it's not clear at all which sorting type is selected. The selected type should not be click-able and should have a dark color, while the unselected type should have an underline and a bright color to indicate its a link.

As you probably already know ( from this post) there are some progresses made on the gallery pages that have fixed (for now) the two issues mentioned in my first post here. Although is not perfect (some comments are not in the original order, the date for most of the comments is November 16, 2007) I wanted to post here mainly to show my appreciation to the web engineers for their effort. Hope all the other issues will be fixed soon.
