Alright! I developed this Widget during beta testing. It allows you to make web-clips to showcase/display your favorite content or the best of the web. This thread is, in the long run, to add more useful features and make Clipboard better. In the long-term, this thread is to find any major bugs or errors that need fixing. Please enjoy.



Features:

• Create and manage unlimited web-clips.
  • Import Clips
  • Export Clips
• Individual Clip preferences.
• Webpage loading indicator.
• Resize clips via lower right corner.
• Reposition a Clip's webpage via the scrollbars.
• Autohide scrollbars. Default is to always show them.

Future features may include anything you suggest.

Bugs:

• Sometimes (more often than not) creating a new clip results in an empty Clip. No webpage/Web object.
• Clicking a link in a Clip then opening individual Clip preferences results in a "phantom" duplicate Clip.
• Resizing might not always work, and instead drag the Clip.

This is quite impressive!

Resizing and reloading a page works well but I noticed a few bugs with the red circle, or maybe it's just that it doesn't work as I was expecting:

- To get it to appear, I need to press Shift then move the cursor inside the red frame (not on the webpage, on the frame around it)

- I don't understand what makes the red circle disappear. After I finished dragging the window, sometime it stays there, sometime it goes away. It doesn't seem very consistent (or is it timer based?)

Also another bug I just noticed:

- "Build new clip" doesn't work (it just say "Loading..." even after a refresh)

- The "loading" bitmap is stretched and doesn't look good when you resize the window (although that's really just a detail)

Yes, it's based on the border/frame, I tried to use JS to prevent if from disappearing when you enter the webpage portion. Web objects don't seem to have an onMouseEnter/Exit, otherwise I would have done it on the webpage itself.

It should disappear when you exit the Clip, or if it doesn't, double click it. It should also disappear if it is visible and you resize the Clip. Due to the JS, the small border size, and fast moving cursors, it may be sporadic in how it works. (the resize one should always work) I can make it disappear if you drag the Clip to a new location ...

I know. The actual picture is quite large. I tried to get it to look nice at the size of the current clip I had open for testing (not the default size), so it might not look as nice as expected. Better ways to "center" it and make it look nice would be appreciated.

OKay, I just upgraded, repositioned all my Widgets (d*mn!) and lost Dictionary to something off-screen.

I just loaded Clipboard, and ["build new clip"] seems to work for me!

You could do the resizing based on the aspect ratio to avoid any stretching. I can post a function to do that, if it helps.

Sure, that would be great. Currently I just make it look good relative to the sized of the border. The problem I see is that even if it is the correct ratio, it has to be smaller than the Clips size, and it might get really tiny, if one dimension is set to the minimum size.

Oh! Maybe you could make the dock a live look of a part of the web page you are viewing. that would be positional too.

It does work if I close and restart the widget though, but almost never when I use "build new clip". I'm using Internet Explorer 6 and XP by the way, but I guess it shouldn't make a difference?

No, Y!WE uses WebKit. However, it doesn't seem to be loading the Web object at all! That may be something wrong with Y!WE, not me, as it works here. I have no idea. Maybe a Dev can weigh in on this.

Thanks. and Hey, it took me a while to get the dock icon to look that way! I think it would be too hard to capture all the clips and position them accordingly in the dock. Plus, .saveImageToFile for web objects is not working right.

I think that letting the user choose one clip would be perfect, and the old dock icon i perfect i just thought it would be cooler to show a part of a webclip. But I guess i can't even mod it to do this until that bug is fixed

Latest Clipboard Download

This is the latest clipboard build with localization abilities and a 98% Spanish translation. The only problem is that it OR the English translation doesn't work. Can I get some help as to why?

Okay, no one helped with localization, and today, I realized that the Web objects offsets are not saved, and so every page would default to the initial (-1, -1) every time they loaded ... I tried to add it, and now nothing happens. No windows popup, no errors are posted in the debug window. (nothing it "caught" either")

So, therefore, I pronounce this Widget DEAD (with possibility for revival if the universe decides this project is somehow cosmically worth keeping alive)

Well, if someone would offer to look at it and try to decipher my code, maybe the root of the issue could be found. I have no idea what/where it is, and my guesses have all been wrong, save one that I haven't tried to hard ...

Well, the idea itself is not dead, and the previous versions work. (which I have copies of all) It's just that localization doesn't work, (I was told it should by the devs during beta testing, sent them this as a test, and have heard no reply) and the latest version of the code doesn't show windows. So I cn go back to the last version that works, but then you lose Spanish localization and having Clips remember the website's position.

On the other hand, if anyone would *like* to make localizations for this Widget with the assumption that I would find a fix sometime, I would be happy to provide a set up, blank localization file.* I have 98% Spanish localization ... the Widget (global) prefs need to be finished ...

* I provide all the "variables" and if needed, the English file for comparison ...
