Is there a way to install the Yahoo! Widget engine somehow?
I've developed a widget which i need to install in the client place.
I dont want the client to download and install the Widget engine. What he needs to do is to just double click on my widget file or some other package, it should automatically install the widget engine and then install my widget. (should work like a Windows setup file).

Is there a way to do it? any thoughts?

Thanks,
Saran

The issue is that a .widget file has no meaning to the OS, as no application is associated with it. So what you really want is a web-based solution that determines if the user has the app installed, and if not, it'll deliver the app along with the widget.

Fortunately such a solution exists (it's how we do it on our Gallery now). They are called Badges. Take a look at them here:

I want to build something similar: give possibility to the user to download a widget and if he doesn’t have the engine installed automatically install it.... In my case widget probably will not be a part of the Gallery since its internal widget that will be downloaded from within the application and will be relevant only to application's clients

How can it be recognized if the engine is installed on the client machine?
