Help Please, i need help in doing metallic tubes Options

I am following this tutorial (http://phong.com/tutorials/wire/) but in step 4 i get lost...i do not know how to "reset colors" by using the "D" key like it says because nothing happens when i do...and i don't know how to get the end result of step 4....can someone please maybe clarify this step in detail....thanks a lot!...oh and by the way im using adobe photoshop cs3 extended, in case this info is needed

when you press D, it defaults the two swatches in your toolbar to black and white. Theres also a button under the two swatches which does this aswell.
