Did you get permission from Yahoo to mod the calendar? On the widgets officially made by Yahoo [or at least most of them; I haven't checked all], you can use the code for whatever you want (BSD-licensed), but images may not be used. Quoting the license:

Well here's some images for you. Problem solved. If you PM me your email i can send you the photoshop files so you can make any changes you want. They're .png in the same size (and names) as the ones in the Yohoo Calendar resources folder. Except I redid the graphics.

Also, don't feel obligated to use them, I did them for fun. And if you do, don't even credit me.

[EDIT]
Of course, you'll still have to redo all the other images...

The short answer is yes the images can be resized, just change the .height and .width attributes of the Image object in your widget, however, since the images have rounded corners they may not look the best when resized in this way.

To avoid distorting the corners you may want to break the image up into 9 distinct pieces which can be resized and repositioned independently (e.g. the four corners not resized, the four edges would only get resized along their respective long axis and the center would get resized in both dimensions)

Basically, like this.

IPB Image
Move the corner images to match the width and height; stretch (and possibly move) the outside pieces to fill the outside gaps; and stretch the centre to fill in the rest.

Not quite. That would work on images without a glassy highlight.
If you stretch the middle, its highlighted curve would not match that of the edges (that were not stretched).
Your best bet would be to make this image via canvas so that it could be dynamically resized and highlighted.

Now I saw someone on this forum do just that.... where's the link....

Well, it wouldn't look quite right, but unless you use canvas or apply the light effect through an almost completely transparent PNG, this will work fine. Because the edge highlights are very small, it shouldn't have too much of a bad effect. However, you would have to play around, and find the best one that you thought worked.

Here it is.

However, the link belongs to BOINCer. He mentioned here that he would like to be asked permission for use first.

If you merge the left and right edges with the center image (7 images total instead of 9) then you can resize the center without worrying about how the highlight curve lines up since it would adjust the whole image.

Internal features like the bottom edge of the heighlight are less of an issue visually than the rounding of the corners themselves, so this would probably be a viable alternative.

As a side benefit of dividing the image into multiple pieces you can add click handlers to individual image elements e.g. the lower right corner such that dragging the corner will resize the whole image while leaving the rest of the images alone so that clicking on them will still allow you to drag the whole widget around on your screen.

There's no reason why you can't resize a small section from the middle (where the highlight is flat). This way, only the slim middle pieces get stretched and the highlight curve is preserved.
ALthough in some situations (especially with poorly made images) you can end up with that middle section becoming more transparent as it gets wider.

If people want the .psd file, sing out and I'll upload it.
