According to the "Konfabulator Reference 4.5.pdf", these automatic updates are now available?
For widgets that are in the gallery of course, and have a unique identifier.

But... my widget doesn't notify me about these updates (after they get approved and published of course)!
I don't see any new icon in the dock... Is there some time delay before this "update widget icon" in the dock appears, or shoud it work immediately after the new version is published in the gallery?

The Yahoo update checks your widget version if the one you have in the dock has the same version number you will not see anything.

Last time (summer 2008 ^^) I updated 5 widgets and only got a notification for 1.
I think there are still some bugs!

So for testing purposes... if I download the latest version of my widget from the widget gallery, edit its version number to a lower value, save it as a flat file and run it (replacing the downloaded widget in My Widgets folder)... It should notify me that an update is available, right?
Well, it doesn't.smile.gif

There are also cases were there is a new version but the Gallery wont let me get the update. I have to delete the Widget from the Widget folder and then download it. Over all they have a nice setup but it needs improved.

You would have to write your own auto-update script.

Writing an auto update script is really easy. I made one that simply makes an HTTP request every time the widget launches.

Put a small text file on your webserver that has only the latest version number of your widget in it (e.g. "1.1").

Grap this value, and compare it to the widget.version attribute of your current widget. If the version is lower than the one pulled from the internet, flash up a dialog box to tell the user to download a new version.
